Lifts of p-adic Galois Representations and Kisin Varieties

Disclaimer: No knowledge of algebraic geometry will be assumed in this talk. In 2009 Kisin constructed a projective variety whose closed points parameterize certain deformations of a given p-adic Galois representation from characteristic p to characteristic 0. The invariants of these varieties are related to the invariants of flat deformation rings. In this talk, I’ll start by defining (mod p) p-adic Galois representation and its flat deformation ring. Then I will discuss the relationship between deformations and points of the Kisin variety. Finally, I’ll talk about the methods I am currently using to study the geometric points of certain Kisin varieties.
