FiberSim: a spatially-explicit computational model of muscle sarcomeres
Series: Quantitative Biology Colloquium
Location: Hybrid: Math, 402/Online
Presenter: Ken Campbell, Director of Translational Research for Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Kentucky

Ken Campbell, PhD is a Professor and Director of Translational Research for Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Kentucky. His research group integrates experimental and computational techniques with the goal of developing better therapies for patients who have heart failure. In this colloquium, Dr. Campbell will describe the FiberSim model of muscle sarcomeres (https://campbell-muscle-lab.github.io/FiberSim/). The framework tracks the location and status of molecules in a muscle’s sub-cellular lattice structure and is thus spatially-explicit. Stochastic techniques are used to simulate molecular interactions and to predict contractile function. Dr. Campbell will explain the global framework, comment on some of the numerical techniques that are used, and present example results.
