Arizona Mathematics Road Show
Project Website: Arizona Mathematics Road Show
The world is full of mathematics - the physical world and the world of our imagination. But in school children rarely learn about the directions that learning math can lead them in. Prof Bruce Bayly is about to show them, via a Math outreach program called the Arizona Mathematics Road Show.
The Arizona Mathematics Road Show is modeled on The Physics Factory that brings hands-on science activities to schools and Boys and Girls Clubs.
Balloon polyhedra, rope puzzles , and other brainteasers will engage children’s spatial reasoning. Musical instruments, simple machines, and other equipment will illustrate how math appears in the real world. Although many topics require college math for full understanding, the basic ideas of size, shape, and number will be at the center of every activity.
